Billing & Overage
Billing Cycle
- Billing is monthly, renewed on the subscription start date
- SOp consumption is monitored in real time via
GET /tenant/usage - Consumption alerts are configurable at 80% and 95% of the plan limit
Overage
| Plan | Behavior |
|---|---|
| Free | Write operations and instance searches are blocked when the 2,000 SOp limit is reached. Read operations continue to work normally. |
| Paid | Overage is charged automatically at the end of the billing cycle at the plan's per-1,000-SOp rate. |
There are no surprise charges. The tenant is notified by email and webhook when crossing the alert thresholds.
Public Calculator
The pricing calculator is available at stateway.io/pricing. It allows you to simulate monthly consumption based on:
- Number of processes instantiated per month
- Average number of human tasks per process
- Average number of external events per process
- Volume of independent DMN evaluations
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a SOp?
SOp (Stateway Operation) is Stateway's unit of measure. Every time you instantiate a process, complete a human task, evaluate a DMN decision, send an external event, or execute an instance search (POST /instances/search), you consume 1 SOp. Read operations and other queries are always free.
Are timer fires charged?
No. Automatic timer fires — whether triggered by timeDuration, timeDate, or timeCycle — are free. You pay when instantiating the process that contains the timer, not every time it fires.
Are webhook retries charged?
No. Stateway manages webhook delivery with automatic exponential backoff retry, without charging additional SOps.
Can I use my own BPMN editor?
Yes. Stateway accepts standard BPMN XML exported from any compatible tool (such as the free bpmn.io). Uploading a definition consumes only 1 SOp, regardless of diagram complexity.
What happens if I hit the Free plan limit?
Write operations and instance searches are paused. Reads, list endpoints, and the audit log continue to work normally. You can upgrade at any time and the limit is immediately restored.
Is there a discount for annual payment?
Yes. Annual plans receive a 20% discount over the equivalent monthly price.
